Connect Shopify to Spotify for Artists

You need to connect your Shopify store to an artist before you can list merch on Spotify. Start by installing the Spotify for Artists app in the Shopify App Store or following the steps below.

Note: You’ll need your Shopify store login info for this.

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Click Merch.
  4. Click LOG IN TO SHOPIFY.
  5. Enter your Shopify store URL and click LINK SHOP.
Tip: This is the URL in the address bar when you’re on your Shopify store (e.g. “your-store-name.myshopify.com”).
  6. Log in to Shopify, then follow the steps to set up your accounts.
Note: You’ll be prompted to Add sales channel, accept the terms, and choose the artist you want to link your shop to.

Tip: Pin the Spotify for Artists app to the sidebar in Shopify so it’s easier to find.

Setting up a multi-artist store

If you’re using your Shopify account to sell merch for multiple artists, you need to set up a multi-artist store.

Note: You’ll need to have connected your Shopify account to Spotify for Artists. We recommend confirming that all of the items in each artist’s collection belong to that artist. This ensures that an artist’s items are not displayed in the wrong place on Spotify or promoted to a different artist’s fans.

  1. Log in to Shopify.
  2. Choose another artist to add to your roster.
  3. Click Add collection
  4. Select the collection you want and click Add collection.

You can only add one collection per artist. If you want to add the same collection to multiple artists, you need to create a copy of the collection.

If you’re having trouble finding the artists you haven’t added a collection to, click No collection to filter down to just those artists.

You can connect or disconnect as many artists as you like. You can sort, search, and filter your roster. If you add more than five artists, they’ll be stored on additional pages.

Publish merch to Spotify for Artists

Once your Shopify store is connected, you can publish up to 250 merch items from Shopify to Spotify for Artists. You can then manage your merch items in Spotify for Artists.

Note: Make sure that the items you publish belong to that artist and are ready for public visibility. Any items you add to your Spotify sales channel in Shopify will be available in Spotify for fans to purchase and in Spotify for Artists, where you can manage your items.

In some cases it can take up to an hour for your items to appear on Spotify.

  1. Log in to Shopify.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Click Products, then All products.
  4. Choose a product.
Note: Check the product uses plain text and static images for the description and media (we don’t support videos or text formatting).
  5. Click Manage next to SALES CHANNELS AND APPS.
  6. Make sure Spotify is checked, then click Done.
  7. Click Save at the top of the product page.

If you add more merch to your Shopify store in the future, make sure you publish it to your Spotify sales channel so fans can buy it on Spotify.

You can check all the merch you’ve published to Spotify by clicking Manage Availability in the Product Status card in the Spotify for Artists app in Shopify.

Feature merch on your artist profile

Once your merch is published from Shopify, you can pick up to 3 items to feature on your artist profile. Make sure to update these items regularly so fans on Spotify always see your newest items or the items you’re most interested in selling.

Note: Your merch needs to meet our merch guidelines.

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Click Merch.
  4. Click Manage item on the merch you want to feature.
  5. Click the checkbox next to Feature on profile.
  6. Click Done.

Your merch appears on your profile in the order you add it. To re-order merch, uncheck Feature on profile for each item, then feature them again in the order you want.

You can remove merch at any time to feature different merch on your artist profile.

Note: Out of stock items are automatically removed from your profile.

Tag merch to your releases

Once it's published from Shopify, you can tag your merch to any relevant releases (albums, EPs, or singles). This helps us include your items either on the release page on Spotify or in any marketing we do for your release.

Note: Your merch needs to meet our merch guidelines.

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Click Merch.
  4. Click Manage item on the merch you want to tag to a release.
  5. Use the search bar to find and select the release you want to tag the item to.
Note: Tagged releases appear below the search bar once selected.
  6. Click Done.

To remove a tag, select Manage item and click the X next to the release name.

We may automatically display an item on a release page if the item name appears to match the release or song names. Items you choose to display are prioritized over any items we automatically display.

Some listeners may be shown fewer items on the release page based on the device they're using.

Note: Out of stock items are automatically removed from your release pages.

Disconnecting a Shopify store

You’ll need to disconnect Shopify from Spotify for Artists if you want to:

  • Connect your artist profile to a different Shopify store
  • Have Merchbar merch show on your profile again
  1. Log in to your Shopify store.
  2. Go to Spotify for Artists.
