Types of Spotify playlists

There are millions of playlists on Spotify.

They’re created by Spotify listeners around the world, our team of experts, and algorithms, and are a great way to get your music in front of millions of potential fans.

Personalized playlists

Personalized playlists are different for each listener, based on their unique taste.

They’re created by algorithms that look at listener habits (what they play, save, share, skip, etc.) and the habits of people with similar taste.

The more followers you have, the more personalized playlists you get on.

Popular personalized playlists include:

  • Discover Weekly
  • Release Radar
  • Daily Mix
  • On Repeat
  • Repeat Rewind

Editorial playlists

There are thousands of editorial playlists. You can tell it’s one of ours by the Spotify logo in the top-left corner.

They’re curated by our playlist editors. Our editors are genre, lifestyle, and culture specialists with diverse backgrounds. Many playlists have several editors in different locations to find music from all around the world.

We also personalize some editorial playlists to listeners’ taste. For example, a playlist of 'rock hits' will contain songs the listener already likes, suggestions based on their taste, and will look different for each listener.

You can pitch a song from an upcoming release to our playlist editors.

Listener playlists

Over the years, Spotify listeners have created millions of playlists.

They’re a great way to understand your fans, get a sense of how your music resonates, and how your reach has grown.

They can influence other playlists, too. When fans save music to their playlists, it shows us what they like and what to recommend.
