For some viewers, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s performance of “Despacito” at the 2018 Grammys was surprising. Rarely is Spanish-language music showcased that prominientially on music’s biggest night, and the duo’s performance was unapologetic about its roots. But the song’s placement was a testament to its total ubiquity in 2017. While it didn’t win any Grammys, it has notched up a new, important distinction: as the most streamed remix of 2017.

Recently, Spotify has focused on remix culture. Remixers are now getting credit for their impact on music culture and streams of remixes will count toward the remixer’s monthly listeners. This means that the tracks will show up on individual artists charts and remixers will now have access to access to song-level insights for their remixes in their Spotify For Artists account.
