Adding a Canvas

Canvas is an 8-second visual loop that shows in a vertical format to fill the screen. It appears in the Now Playing View instead of your album artwork.

You can add a Canvas to any track, including upcoming releases.

You need to be either:

  • The first main artist listed on the track
  • A main artist listed on both the track and release

For: Admins and Editors

  1. Log in to artists.spotify.com.
  2. Go to Music tab Music.
  3. Select a track.
  4. Click Add Canvas (web) / Create Canvas (mobile app).

Check out Canvas examples at artists.spotify.com/canvas.

Can't see your Canvas?

  • Canvas only shows on the Spotify mobile app.
  • Make sure your phone's operating system is up-to-date. You need to be running:
    • iOS 12 or above
    • Android 6.0 or above
  • Ensure your settings allow you to play Canvas. Open your Spotify mobile app, tap your avatar, and select Settings and privacy, then:
    • Select Data-saving and offline and choose Off under Data Saver. Canvas doesn't play if Data Saver is on.
    • Select Content and display and toggle Canvas on.
  • For labels: If you have split rights to a song, you can only add a Canvas on versions you own. Make sure you're checking your versions of the song.
  • Canvas is available to listeners in these locations:
