How did you get your start as a songwriter and producer?
Ovy on the Drums: "I started a while after I finished school and I didn't know what I wanted to do in my life. I didn't know what I wanted to study and music came into my life to become everything."
What was one of the first songs you ever wrote?
"I will always say music saved my life... Really the first song I wrote [that] went big was 2018's "Te Vi" for [Colombian Latin pop group] Piso 21 and [Venezuelan rapper] Micro TDH where I worked as a producer and composer."
How has your style or practice changed since then?
"Since I started in music I have improved and evolved my sound a lot. I feel that I have my own style to produce and compose. I went from creating things that are a little more saturated at the sound level to making rhythms that are a little simpler but with a bigger sound."
What's something you wish you'd been told or learned earlier in your career?
"The truth is that there are many things. For example, how the business works and what producer and composer [are] entitled to. But all the lack of information that perhaps I did not have at the beginning of my career helped me to be what I am today. All processes are different and I am very grateful for mine."
What are the three songs you're proudest of writing, and what influences or inspiration did you have to write these?
"Three songs I am the most proud of are Piso 21 & Micro TDH's "Te Vi," Becky G and Karol G's "MAMIII," and "Te Amo" by Piso 21 and Paulo Londra. I had no influence when creating these songs--I just let the artists be carried away by my concept of always doing different and simple things."
What are some things you can't live without in a studio session?
"I can't live without a TV, lots of water, nuts for snacking, and a mini controller."
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
"I would like to collaborate with Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Pharrell."
What genres would you like to experiment with?
"I would like to experiment more with electronic music and Afrobeats."
Are there any new songwriting topics that you'd like to touch on next?
"A topic that I haven't touched on yet is social music or music to help people grow mentally and spiritually."
